Workouts this morning posted on 05/02/2012Hello from J.Vassallo Stables.
This morning Jason had a truck full of horses leaving the farm after their morning food and heading to the track for a workout.
Cocos, Hulot, Baron, Mint and also a gallopp horse who is at the farm had a workout planned.
At the stable we took our time to fix all equipment for all the horses and down to the track we went. Due to the rain coming down during the night the track was really heavy and had a lot of mud. I was driving Cocos, Jason was driving Hulot, Jean was driving Baron and Joe took the reins on Mint.
Jason had in mind to go for two intervals of 2000 metres but after the warmup he changed his mind opting to go fora workout of 3000 metres.
We went in a bunch, but stayed in line on the inner part of the track. All horses looked very good and even Baron and Cocos who had been out for a while are looking really in tune.
Back at the stables, Jason took the pulse on all horses and they all had low pulse. It took time for us to shower the horses and the equipment due to the huge amount of mud they had on.
Back at the farm, the boxes where cleaned in the afternoon/ The horses who where working stayed inside while Lemon, Alin & Cool stayed outside. I took Lemon inside in the afternoon, while Uta and the girls came up to spend some time with their horses.
That's all for today, wish you all a nice week.

Tomorrow Workouts posted on 04/02/2012Hello from J.Vassallo Stables.
Tomorrow we would be going down to the track with the horses for a workout. For Hulot and Mint, this will be a workout before their race the next weekend, while for the others it will be normal training as preparations fo the sign ups.
Today all the trotters went into the walker. Lemon and Baron went into the walker this afternoon, while Hulot, Mint and Cocos all went this morning. The walker was full of water and mud and this means a lot a water on their legs to clean the horses from the mud.
Alin was out in the street with Uta while the girls came along to the farm and spent time with Cool. Cool was also for some time riding outside the farm since the track around the big field was practically full with mud.
That's all for tonight.

Cocos shaved and working posted on 03/02/2012Hello from J.Vassallo Stables.
Today Cocos is the horse in the news. At around lunch time Edmond and Joe went up to the farm to meet a guy coming around to shave Cocos. Cocos was shaved and behind him e left a huge amount of fur.
In the afternoon I put the equipment on him and the protrainer. Cocos was working for 45 minutes. At times the brakes of the protrainer where applied so Cocos had to work harder.
Baron and Lemon went into the walker this afternoon. Jason took them out of the paddock and left both horse in the walker for an hour.
Mint and Hulot both went into the walker this morning. They stayed for 45 minutes.
Alin was out in the streets. Uta was riding her for over an hour. Cool and Mystic went out for a walk with the girls.
That's all folks. Wish you all a happy weekend.

J.VASSALLO STABLES Baron working slowly posted on 02/02/2012Hello from J.Vassallo Stables.
This afternoon Jason was up at the farm and put the equipment on Baron,he had the protrainer fixed on him.
Baron was working inside the farm around the track even if the surface was a bit muddy. After half an hour inside the farm Jason took him out in the street where he stayed out for over another 30 minutes. Jason took care of him and then took him straight to his box.
Cocos, Hulot and Mint all went into the walker this morning. Fredu took care of Hulot, while Joe cleaned Mint and I took care of Cocos. They all had mud over their bodies and it took some time to clean. After the cleaning they all went inside their boxes.
Lemon was in the walker this afternoon. He stayed for an hour walking slowly. After I washed his legs and cleaned his mud all over his body he went inside his stable.
Alin was in her stable early today. Uta is worried that something is wrong with her and took some blood to have some tests. She stayed in the stable munching hay. Cool had the day off today.
That's all for today. Goodnight.

Workout posted on 30/01/2012Hello from J.Vassallo Stables.
This afternoon we went down to track with Cocos, Mint and Hulot for a workout. Jason took a look at Baron and found that he still has not recovered from the problem he had so he decided to leave him at the stables.
Before we went down, Jason had to fix Mint's shoe which she lost last Saturday.
When we arrived at Marsa and went to the stables the rain started going down heavily and we where undecided if we would go ahead with the workout. Since we had little option we decided to go even if the rain was still coming down in buckets.
Jason drove Hulot, Joe took the reins on Mint and I drove Cocos. The track had a lot of water and we where the only crazy people working our horses. We warmed up togheter and went back to the paddock. Jason and Joe went for a 3000 metre workout. I had to control Cocos who was not happy to see the others go, since Cocos was going for a different workout.
All the horses looked fine especially Hulot, Cocos looked to have gained a lot from his days without training. He looked really good and wanting to do more than he actually needed to do.
All three of us where soaking wet and we had the cleaning to do. We stayed at Marsa until 18:00 and then the truck load left for Mgarr.
All the horses where inside today due to the rain and Lemon was not happy at all. He was banging and only the hay kept him calm.
Uta was up and took care of Alin, She was undecided if she would go out with her.
That's all folks. Have a nice evening.

J.VASSALLO STABLES Horses Inside posted on 29/01/2012Hello From J. Vassallo Stables
Today all horses stayed inside due to the bad weather. You can understand that all the horses did not like staying inside but aslong as they are all in, they stay calm.
The only horse doing some work today was Alin. Uta went up at the farm this afternoon and put the equipment on her. They went out and stayed for an hour and a hlaf riding around the streets close to the farm.
Tomorrow we are due to be going down to the track for a workout with the horses. If the weather permits Cocos, Hulot and Mint will go down and Jason will take a look at Baron and he will decide if he will be working with the others.
Today it was the prix d'amerique day. Every one who is in this horse racing world knows that this is probably the best race of the year for the trotters. Ready Cash emerged once again as the winner. He left it late to sprint past the bunch finishing in an incredible time of 1.12'0". Ready Cash was also last year's winner and this race has confirmed that he is the best trotter at the moment in time.
That's all folks, wish you all a great week.

J.VASSALLO STABLES A quite Saturday posted on 28/01/2012Hello from J.Vassallo Stables.
Since this weekend none of our horses will be racing at the track and there will be no workouts tomorrow morning, it was very quite, this start of the weekend at the farm.
This morning I was up at the farm and met Fredu who already had been working and taking the horses out. The boxes where cleaned this morning and all the horses went into the walker.
Lemon, Cocos and Mint all stayed in the walker for 45 minutes and then they went straight out in their paddocks.
Cool was working in the paddock with the girls this afternoon, while Baron was out for a walk. Jean took the lead and went walking with Baron in the roads close to the farm. Jean said that he was really on his toes and looks to be really in good shape.
Alin was also in the walker this afternoon and Uta who had just returned to Malta after spending a holiday in Switzerland was realy happy to see her baby again.
That's all for tonight.

J.VASSALLO STABLES Fredu flying posted on 27/01/2012Hello from J.Vassallo Stables.
This afternoon everything was going to normal, cleaning of stables, horses etc. until Carmela called me in a panicky way asking me to rush to help Fredu who was struggling with Hulot.
I was cleaning Cocos when Fredu decided to take Hulot to eat some grass inside the farm. Hulot was extremely happy and wanted to run towards the green grass leaving Fredu in trouble holding him. Fredu ended up flying on the grass and Hulot running freely towards his destination that is the grass next to Baron's paddock.
I rushed to give help and luckily Hulot was too busy munching grass and stayed put in his place. We managed to catch him easily and thankfully Fredu was unhurt, but it could have been worst. Fredu was obviously upset and spoke some hard (maltese) words to Hulot who off course was not bothered.
After all had calm down and both Fredu and Hulot where fine, jokingly Fredu told me, I took Hulot to eat grass and ended up eating the grass myself.
This morning Hulot, Cocos and Mint all went in the walker. Fredu took them all to the paddock. Lemon was in the walker this afternoon, while Cool was giving rides to the girls who in turns rode him inside the farm.
Baron looks to be over his problem, infact when Hulot was going trough his adventure, he was running around with his tail high up enjoying the action.
Alin had the day off today and stayed out the whole day inside her paddock.
That's all for today, Hope you have a nice weekend.

J.VASSALLO STABLES Vet, Vet posted on 26/01/2012Hello from J.Vassallo Stables.
This afternoon the Vet was due to come up at the farm to check out Baron and to decide for us if Baron was ok to go down to the track for a workout.
I agreed with him to meet around 16:00 but when I called him he told me he is not coming because he could not determine if he would be ok to train.
Jason called him and agreed with him to come up around 17:00, but we stayed waiting for him for nothing. He decided not to come since, in his opinion he could do nothing for Baron. Unbelievable attitude by this VET.
Well what about today. Cocos, Baron, Mint and Hulot all went into the walker this morning where they stayed for 45 minutes. All of them went out in their paddocks where they stayed until it was cleaning and brushing time for all.
Lemon and Alin went into the walker this afternoon here they stayed for an hour. They were cleaned and inside their stables they went.
Cool and Mystic had the day off today.
That's all folks. Goodnight.

You are always Welcome guys. Åke Svanstedt posted on 30/09/2010I am happy to say that Åke Svanstedt was cleared on all charges in the case of giving electric shocks to horses in training. The judges voted 5/0 on not guilty. A very important thing for the clearing was the visit to the farm were the witnesses could not see if the person that was driving the horse held something in their hand or not, from a distance they had claimed they had seen it!!!!! Which was the actual accusation from the beginning from a "reliable" witness.
Now I am happy Åke was cleared but the sad part is that the trotting sport and its credibility has been badly damaged in the public's eyes. I really hope that the media will be a bit more resonable following up news like this the next time and won't start a witch hunt relying their facts on rumours and from people seeking revenge for being rejected. The every day reader that has not clue of how the training of horses and the trotting works will just believe in these tabloid stories. Will post another one tomorrow if this works :) Another accident!!! posted on 27/06/2010At the races at Rättvik today there was another bad accident. Örjan Kihlström's horse tumble and fell and the two horses after him had no chance to avoid the crash. Per Lennartsson and Hans R Strömberg went down too. All drivers were on the ground and stayed there. Per Lennartsson managed to get up and had pain in a leg and a foot but didn't need to go to hospital. Kihlström and Strömberg had to wait 20 minutes for the ambulance and were taken to the hospital. Both complained about back-and neckpains
Strömberg had a couple of broken ribs and it seems like his lungs and kiddneys have taken a hit. No news yet about Örjan Kihlström!
