And I don't think we will close this discussion we just postpone it untill further news are comming, like after the races on sunday. Just joking! I have seen the work being done this week and I know how hard MRC are working at the moment to present a good (better) track on sunday, and that effort is gold worth for us racing.

I will just give a very short response to a couple of things you have stated, since I think this discussion seems to be more of "I said" and "you said" right now:)

First of all when you say I should know better (hmmmm??) of the perfomance of the horses, well I did not say that the performance should be the same, I stated that the horses were well prepared which they showed on Gozo. And well prepared they have to be no matter if they race on a hard or soft track.

You have chosen to qoute me several times and a sentence taken out of its context can be interpreted in many ways. This has unfortunatly happened a couple of times in this discussion. But hey I can take that since the whole discussion is here for the readers to follow, just wanted to point it out.

Now we both know that alot of actions have been taken to make the track better for this meeting and I know that MRC will do its outmost to give a good product at the end. I just hope that the discussions about everything around our trotting world here on Malta will continue so that the development will continue.

And if you are every sick again, I be glad to discuss another subject with you. For me this discussion is over for this time:)/Jane

If these exchange of ideas were being held with someone else not you, I would have quitted much before. With you I tend to continue because I am sure that we can compromise.

Would you please read again what I have written about the track in these pages? Let me quote: "Both me and you concluded that the track is not ready yet for races". I hope that when you read this statement again you would understand that I am not defending the track's present condition. Contrary to that I believe that the track still has to undergo more preparation to be adequate for racing. I wrote this as well in Maltese, on another Website, with my name in full as I always do and as I appreciate that you always do as well.

Point number two, and I will quote you this time: "And I am sorry to say but no, we can not just blame horseowners if the racing conditions aren't what they are supposed to be". That sentence in itself is an admission by you that yes, horse owners are partly to blame if racing conditions aren't what they are supposed to be! (We cannot just blame them means of course that we can partly blame them.) So again, my dear friend, we are saying the same thing.

One big disappointment though .... I totally disagree with you that since horses were performing well on a very hard track they must perform well on a very soft one. Hey Jane, you know better than that, don't you? Let's not go through all the technicalities because one such explanation would need a lot of lines to develop; still I believe that you need no explanation.

I have read as well that this discussion tends to get more and more personal. Honestly, this did not ever occur to me. With the people I respect and with those who share my interests, oh no I can't even see the slightest of possibilities that we may end up discussing each other on a personal basis. In this case and with you I will surely not do it because I have a lot to loose ..... my hair may not be very well set and you may tease me, my lameness is many times evident and you can detect that at once, etc. etc. etc.!!

Bye the way, I must thank you for one thing. This discussion seems to be taking my illness away. I have long discovered what my best medicine is and thanks to you I confirmed that it still holds.

Great to see such an activity here, but sad to see some comments. What I write on the news is a blogg with opinions, jokes, ironi and facts. What that has to do with the guestbook I can't see. Your proposal of us closing down the guestbook for what I write on the news makes me a bit surprised, the news is as I said a blogg, and when I was referring to the bad english it was on the blogg, not here...hmmm as I think everyone can see.

And I am sorry to say but no, we can not just blame horseowners if the racing conditions aren't what they are supposed to be. There have been times in other countries (read Sweden) when tracks have been poorly prepared and not given the optimal conditons for horses, but I have never heard staff at a track say that they blame the horseowners or trainers for bad performance and for racing with poorly prepared horses. They have just admitted that at that time the track was not in great condition. This actually happened at Solvalla, our main track in Sweden and the track of Elitloppet, and it happens, but the greatness is to admit and not blame.

And of course the trainers are responsible for bringing their horses to the race in good condition. And since many of us have seen horses racing on sunday the 15th when they raced at Gozo before and then did great, we know they were well prepared. So this is not the point, and I can't actually see why the discussion is taken further. We all know that the track was not totally finished, so why defend it; we all know that MRC will do it outmost to try to fix it, so why argue about that; we all know that all horses that raced were not poorly prepared, so why state that; so why this fuzz. It tends to get more and more personal for no reason what so ever.

And yes we will race on sunday Anton, this is the track we have, we have paid and signed up horse to race, so yes we will. Especially since we have swedish guests coming and Vassallo Stables has put two horses in that race.

So now I hope that any further discussions about the track will be held on a nicer level, just keeping it to facts./Jane

Thanks for your reactions and sorry for not writing in English all the time. We must keep in mind that we're in Malta and therefore I try to meet everyone's needs.

Well if you referred to bad English when you said that you decided to leave the post there to give us all a good laugh ..... sorry but then you can stop this guest book altogether! Here I am referring to both messages in English and in Maltese. About Swedish posts I will not comment since I never try to swim out of my own depths.

I would like to tell you that in my opinion the owners and trainers are those responsible for their horses and they are the only ones to blame if horses will perform poorly in the circumstances. My appeal to you is very, very simple: if your opinion should be that the track won't be in a good condition next Sunday, if you should really believe that it will contribute to injuries, then I am once again waiting to see what your own decision will be!

Keep in mind that the responsiblity of the MRC Administrative Council, once again in my opinion which could be mistaken, is to ascertain that the finished product will be one which we Maltese had been dreaming about for many long years. I think that they are in the right direction.

As of your quote on me, hmmm, it was right, yes, but not the intention with the saying (hmm as I think you know:)....I also wrote that I am surprised I didn't write it in swedish, so when I wrote about giving you a good laugh it was considering my spelling and my bad english, NOT the meaning of what I wrote.

No matter how tired I am my mind is sharp as a knife on that part with facts and my opinion. So no, considering the discussion of the track and what is around it, to say that I am messy about the reasoning about that is not fair, but hey, a good try to undermine my opinions and thoughts:) And I think you know I don't say anything if I don't have enough to back me up.

Hi there Anton! I knew I would get a respons to what I wrote and that is good I think. Keeps the discussion about our racing world alive. But I do not take back what I said about the times and the track...everyone that saw the races also saw that well-prepared horses stopped. Plenty of owners and trainers were standing in the paddock with watches...

Now to compare our horses down here (alltough I think ours are the champs:) with a performance of Commander Crowe is like comparing me riding the bike with Armstrong. Hmmm, in Sweden the tracks depends mainly on the weather, sunny dry day means faster tracks...here we had a sunny, dry day soooo...it means the track is not prepared for races...I would gladly have waited another month for you all at MRC to be able to conclude your task cause you all have done a great job...splendid job...I just feel a bit sad that you could not hang in there to fulfill it to the end and had to rush it...cause give the track some time and work (a bit sand off) and it would be great.

And hmm, yeah, still say that when half the start field falls out it does not depend on preparation...the people in Malta are good trainers, very devoted, that has been proven time after time so it has depend on something else right...

Now as you said Anton, we can discuss it in eternity, but the fact is...either close for races a bit more, no training on the track (please) or do some other changes cause as it is right now...hmmm no!

Hello to everyone at Vassallo Stables.

Hi Jane, that our horses can't run better then coldbloods from Sweden you can dream, dream, dream!

Last week the great gelding Commander Crowe won a race in the kilometer rate of 1'16.6" due to circumstances. We both know that this superb trotter has covered the same distance in 1'12.1"/Km in different circumstances more than once. Just because in certain circumstances our horses in even the Bronze Division had covered the distance in similar kilometric rates, of beating Commander with these horses we can dream, dream, dream!!

As well, yesterday was race day in Malta and in Sweden. In Malta we had a winner's kilometer rate of 1'22.3" in one race and in Sweden they had a winner's kilometer rate of 1'22.8" in another race (no, they were not coldbloods!)

Well Jane, since this is my subject and your subject we can keep on writing and discussing till who knows when! Since I had the opportunity to discuss this subject with you more than once, I am fully aware of your excellent skills and knowledge.

I only wish that you allow me to make one appeal to you.

Since you are a foreign trainer with a lot of experience and had a lot of opportunities to learn in a country were horse racing is very developed, please keep in mind that your comments have a lot of weight especially when read by people whose knowledge is much more limited.

Both me and you will never conclude that although in Germany and in Denmark they have "heavy" tracks, this does not mean that they are bad tracks.

Both me and you concluded that the track is not ready yet for races. Both me and you concluded that horses were not well prepared. Well, telling owners to bug off is not the nice way to go about it I think, but I understand you when you say it. One thing is sure. Nobody was obliged to register horses for racing and sometimes even the most experienced and knowledged fall into traps!

Good luck for the horses from your stables racing next Sunday.

Hope we'll soon find the time to drink a night away on a boat once more!

Hello Jane,
I went through a book I bought recently about the flora in Malta. Put your mind at rest, that plant is no UFO :o) It's the Ripe fruit of a plant called Italian Lords and Ladies, in Maltese it is "Garni" and the scientific name is Arum Italicum. It blooms between March and May. Sorry don;t have much more info about it. What is funny is that i spotted this plant last Monday at Chadwick lakes and it caught my eye as well :o) Have a good day dear.

On the forum on MTR there has been a disussion about the judges and alot of harsh words. I am only responding to what concerns Vassallo Stables.

*First of all both me and Jason have discussed the subject in general, but I have been using my horse as an exemple (should I use someone elses? And yes I own him). To my knowledge there has not been any names written out or pointed out on the website, which I never do, cause this is not personal. Critizing a driver in a race is not personal, it his actions , driving and doings.

*There has not accured any threats to any person more then in a general, protective manner for the animals. And that point I will go in death for, protecting animals from whipping and bad behaviour from any human being, mark my words on that. And about the abbusive language, nae never.

*Critics are given on the website for actions taken or not taken. Not to a person. It is so important to be able to divide the person and the action and to discuss it seperately. If you have an assignement, you have to be able to take the critics. People will not always be satisfied with your job. But that is not a critic to the private person. For exemple, I had teacher colleague that was so bad at teaching, but wonderful friends. Critic: their job, not their person.

*And to anyone who knows anything about taking care and training horse, yes there is washing, cleaning and dealing with their shit. But since some of the best trainers in Sweden can do good without driving races themselves (Stig H Johansson, Kari Lädhikorpi and Petri Puro, for exemple) I think I will too. As I have mentioned on the website, I know what I am good at and I stick to that, training them. And then I have a good driver for the race instead, making the most out of it.

So to end this, you do not have to agree with mine or Jason's opinions, cause they are opinions. But at least show us the repect you all seem to claim: not to be called names, to be degraded of what your are doing or stretching the truth. That shows more about the people who wrote it, than the people we are.
