Depressed??????? posted on 08/02/2010Hmmm I actually think I am that...with all the fuss that has been going on in my life the last months it is wearing me down...and hey there is a limit for everyone...and mine is high, that anyone that knows me can confirm!!! But right now, especially after the races when it slows down a bit a the farm I can feel it.
Anyway gonna do my best, as usual: the horses took the races well and they have been playing and jumping in the paddock today. A good sign!
We checked Lemon today but as I told Jason. If Big would have galopped Jas just would have said: "S**t happens, too bad" and to be honest I think it is the same with Lemon. Could be anything or nothing that disturbed him or even a bit of loose reins, who knows, everything happens in seconds. I wouldn't make such a big deal of it and the chief feels the same when we had the check-up on him...Lemon showed a slight reaction in the front. But as Jas said: if we would have done the bending ourselves we would maybe have blistered a bit or just continued with liniment and bandages. Now we will see what to do....
But I have to complain about my boss a bit:) He is actually calling me lazy now, but hey my broken finger slows me down...but I know he is joking (or I hope he is:)
Anyway, for those who wants to know, and I found out there are quite a few people who does...my car problem seems to be solved tomorrow and not thanks to me hahahaha....Etienne is the one who has done the work. I guess if I would have done it it would have been a bigger mess right now:) But hey, I knew my limit and my temper so better hand it over to someone who can manage...
Now as the chief said, every morning this week he will wake up half an hour earlier every day so on friday I will pick him up at 6...do you believe it??????...naaaa neither do I:) Have a great evening/Jane 3rd in the final posted on 07/02/2010This day has been spent at Marsa. We began the day by taking Baronello down for a testrace and he won it. Jason was so happy with him, he had one complaint though. Seems like Baron wants his friends to join him at the finish line and waits for them:) but that is a minor problem. At least the horse showed that he is good!
After a workout with Vip River we headed back to the farm, actually just to prepare the other horses and go again. Since they all needed to be heated before the first race we had to be there early.
So how did it go. Cool did a very strong race. With number 15 he got a position on the rail and for a long time it seemed like he would be stuck there. The chief managed to get him out around 600-700 left but had a long way to the front horses. Cool sprinted well and ended up 4th. He is getting there!
Lemon looked really good in his race and we actually thought he could have a chance to maked it to the top three when he galopped in the last curve. Why? We have different opinions about it, but we will check him and see. He did show though after the galopp that he has the speed to finish. Good!
Then it was Biggles turn and this grumpy gentleman really showed he can fight today. The problem was that he had a bit too much energy and was on the edge to galopp the whole time. A couple of times in the race he got too eager and Jason had to hold him a bit. But what a good race he did and at the end he was gaining all the time. Being a bit more relaxed and he could have finished first. The comment Jason had after the race was that Biggles thought it was another lap left. Promise good for the future:)
Well now I am sitting here (actually alone) and celebrating the day by drinking swedish coffee, suitable but a bit boring, a third in a final could have deserved a bit more celebration, but what the heck coffee is good:) Congrats to all who done good today and thanks to all and everyone who helped out at the races today. You are the best:)/Jane. Edit ????? posted on 06/02/2010If you wonder why I didn't write yesterday I can tell you that I did, but quite late and when I was gonna edit the news it was gone. And to be honest I got a bit tired of computers and internet then. Hmmm wonder why we ever left the fine system to communicate with djungle drums and smoke signals :)
Well these past days has been all about preparing the horses for tomorrow since they are all racing one way or the other. Baronello is going down for a test race tomorrow morning and the three others will race in the afternoon. You know how I get when it is racing time and now it is like a storm in my tummy:) I really hope they all do good, but I have to admit that it is the final that really makes me nervous...
And it is not just my tummy that is the problem. My broken finger is making my work difficult. I accidently hit it today again and the pain made me faint and sick, phew. Luckily I will get some help tomorrow at the races. Very needed:)
The last couple of days we have had some swedish guests coming to the farm, Michael Bergquist and his wife. He has been teaching Jason how to do acupuncture to relief muscle pain on the horses. Great cause now we have the option to really keep the horses fresh and fit. The farm is almost becoming like a spa with stretching, massage, laser, clay treatments and now adding acupuncture. But this is how a stable is supposed to work in my opinion, take precautions and avoid getting injured horses and most of all avoid all the injections. Hmmm yeah if you want you are more than welcome for a treatment :)
So I guess I will have an early night tonight (hope the chief does the same:) and just relax watching a horror movie. Good night to all of you and good luck to the once that will race/Jane Broken finger posted on 04/02/2010This morning started at 4 and I can tell you this is killing me. But but what doesn't kill you strenghtens you right...
Now we went down with three horses to Marsa, Big to be shoed and two for a workout. Etienne wanted to drive his own horse, and I can understand that coming from Cometa (pulling as h-l:) but I kept pushing him if he could keep track of the watch, since I was riding Baronello I needed one to keep the pace. Well Etienne did a brilliant job and the horses had a splendid workout. Take my hat of for Etienne on his first "clocking" workout:)
And I have to admit I love, just love, riding in the speed we went. Gosh how I have missed stretching out with a horse in full galopp:) and today I had a horse with power...nice!!!! Last time Baron was tired, well not today, he really really enjoyed this and showed what he has. Lemon looked real good from the side and except from a couple of "bad" steps cause of the track he did great:) Hope he will do good on sunday...
But it could have ended badly today...as they always tumble when they get out in the paddock so did Lemon and got stuck in the fence. Luckily it was at a bad part of the wire so it broke immediatly...phew. No wounds and no injuries...
Now as for me I am feeling like shit:) I broke a finger today letting Baron out. Got stuck between the lead and the metal hook and just heard a crack. Thought it was Baron hitting the gate but it was my finger...this is the trouble with my illness. I can't always feel the pain at the moment it happens, but heck now I do:(
So now I think I will leave you to get some rest and see if I can stop hitting my finger on stuff, it almost makes me faint. But the show must go on.../Jane I was right:) posted on 03/02/2010It was a "slower" day today. At least if we talk about training but if we talk about the other stuff I kept quite busy this morning. All horses got new beddings (yes even the ponies:) and I can tell you those bags of beddings we have are sooo heavy. Since I still don't have a car (told you it is a soap-opera:) I fixed and prepared everything for tonight, just in case I would be late up. And glad I did cause I was late up hahaha
I even put more sand for the dogs today. Hmmm yeah we can call it beddings:) Both Scary and Big Buddha were more than happy to help with all the beddings (read they were in the way:) but who can get mad at them. They are adorable, well all the dogs are at the farm...
Before I left the farm I gave an earlier lunch than usual but untill the car thing is solved I guess it has to be like this. Now hear this...I walked from Ta' Qali to Mgarr...:D...well it took me 1,5 hour and I thought the road would never end...phew. As if riding the horses aren't enough excersize:)
So if you will excuse me I am a bit tired now:) and knowing that the alarm will go off at 4 I better get some sleep. Why 4? We are going down to Marsa with Big, Baron and Lemon. Big for shoes and the two others for a workout...See you tomorrow/Jane Busy at the farm... posted on 02/02/2010It is full action at the farm right now preparing the horses for the next meeting. After a morning when the the boring stuff was done (the shitty work with the stables:) the fun began. Training!!!
At lunch we took Biggles to the sea and it was just in time. It was calm on the inside of the pire when he began to swim but after 20 minutes in the sea he began to look at me as to say "now it is enough". Hmm no wonder cause he had to start struggle with the waves. But I think he has missed the swimming. After having protested when he was to go in to the sea the last couple of times, he now went down with hardly any hesitation...and he did a good workout!
Back at the farm the chief cleaned Cool from the clay while I was fixing the pony-stables. When Cool had dried up a bit the sadle was on (but still with a blanket on him:) and we took a workout in the streets. And I must say I have never felt him so powerful and still flexible as I did today. I had expected him to be a bit taken by the race but oh no...A ton of dynamite!
When I got back Lemon and Baronello was waiting for their turn and Etienne had arrived. Fot the second time today I sat on a potential explosion:) It is really nice to feel how Baron has change in his behaviour and in his action when I ride him. Now he is getting more and more powerful and he is not just walking but working under the sadle. Nice!!!! Lemon seemed a bit lazy today but I think he burned most of his energy chasing Cool in the paddock and hmmm, tumbling. Wonder why all the horses that comes to us loves to get the dirty:)
Guess tomorrow will be a "slower" day at the farm but that you never know:)/Jane Not much... posted on 01/02/2010Well since I have been without car today I haven't spent so much time at the farm. Etienne came and took me home after the morning chores and then Jason gave the food at lunch.
Cool Kemp took the race well and ate like a horse:) The horses have been nagging on each other in the paddock. Big lets the other ones go on for a while but then he tells them off when he thinks they are too nasty and needs to be seperated:)
In the afternoon the chief came for me and we got the straw for the mares. Hate that business cause it gets in to your clothes and it itches:) Well, have to be done...
The horses were as usual cleaned, got bandages etc Guess it will be even more than usual this week since we got three horses racing on sunday: Cool, Lemon, and Biggles. Hmm, that will be a lot of work:)
Now I am gonna have some coffee and watch the storm. Hmmm feels like the whole house will fly away. So typical, we were gonna take Biggles to swim tomorrow but now we have to see how the sea is/Jane What a day... posted on 01/02/2010Ever thought about the expresion "having a full day"...well I had it. My chief thought it was strange that I had to get up at 4 this morning to get things done:) We were going to leave the farm at 7. Hmmm, first I had to go to Mahtab to feed two horses (takes 30 minutes just in the car) and then I had to go to the farm and feed and let the horses out that were not going down to Marsa. What a morning...
Anyway Baron and Lemon got a workout but hmmm, I was not quite satisfied with how it went. The horses seemed good but the workout was not 100 % for the horses. They should have been up there more together to have had some support of each other. Well the result is anyway that Lemon is signed up:)
Back at the farm just after 10, took Cool in and gave him lunch and we had to leave again at 11. Between then I had to go to Mahtab and be reasonable...how on earth could I make it . Maybe I could have if the car would have worked...but on the way back the car totally quit! The end of the story is that we managed, although a bit late and the car is still standing there totally still:)
So how did the race go...Cool was so brave...he ended up in third outside but then they started switching leaders...and what happened...he ended up in death position...well Jason went for the lead but he had to fight for it. There Cool had to burn a lot of energy. Well, to be honest, Cool made the best race ever. He fought as h-l and he finally ended up at sixth place and that was great considering the race and that the distance wasn't his favourite.
This evening the horses were cleaned and fixed. One of them started to wash Baronello and the poor horse was freezing with all this cold water, he was actually shaking. Not the best for a horse that just has quit coughing, but the chief was fast as a flash to cover him. It is not always easy to say no to friends with big hearts that wants to help:)
Full day huh! Now time for bed and by the way congrats to all winners today:)/Jane Training posted on 30/01/2010Hmmm, and not only for the horses, but for me too. Right now there is alot of riding for me. Oh I am not complaining, I love it:)
Etienne and I were out with Lemon and Baron this morning and Baron totally freaked over a man getting out of his car. The result was a loose shoe. We almost made the whole round before he lost it, but it flew like a ufo when we came closer to the stadium:) It took both me and Dwayne to find it eventhough we saw exacatlly were it fell. Hmmm, no wonder shoes get lost in the paddock...
Right after they were done, Jason and I took Biggles to the beach. Gee it was like sitting on a time-bomb...there were parashute-surfers all around and when one got his up from the sand Big almost exploded:) Well he got a nice workout but he did not canter. It felt like he was on his way but next time I tried he just flew of in trotting. You should try to sit on this horse when he is like this, jumping to the sides in full speed:)
The afternoon was spent to take care of the horses. Since Baron and Lemon are going for a workout at the track they had to be prepared. And I know the time will fly so Cool was properly cleaned for the races. Well, Big was cleaned too but it is heck of a problem getting his mane free from mud...we could actually start calling him Bob Marley:)
Now time for me to relax a bit. Have to get up at 4 to have time for my other job before we leave the farm at 7 so good night and good luck to all that are racing/Jane

Malta(Gozo) VS Sweden(Mantorp)/Gozo Channel posted on 14/10/2009On Sunday 18th October 2009 a race is organized between 6 drivers from Sweden from the track of Mantorp and 6 from Malta and Gozo. This is a friendly race but every one will try to win off course so good luck to all.
This race would"nt be able to set it up with out the help of the Gozo Horse Racing Assoceaion,to Carl Debono With the sponser of Fintech and last but not least to all the owners who have offerd there horses to do a race.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Arengement with Gozo Channel (another thanks to Dr Mattew Brincat Chairman M.R.C.
The Malta Racing Club has had talks undergoing with the Gozo Channel in order to set an agreement with regards to Priority Boarding for vehicles transporting racehorses between Malta and Gozo. The idea was at first meant to help Gozitan horse owners in order not to stay waiting in the queue to catch a ferry when they are transporting horses in their trailers. Seeing that nowadays we are also having many Maltese owner going to Gozo with their horses, the Malta Racing Club and the Gozo Channel have agreed to quicken their talks and issue some guidlines that will help all owners before the talks to set this procedure are fully agreed.
For now, all owners transporting horses between the islands are gently asked to inform the Malta Racing Club office with:
1. The name of the person doing the traveling with the horses;
2. The registration number of the car/truck hauling the horses;
3. The time when they are planning to catch the ferry.
In this way the Malta Racing Club will forward these details to the Gozo Channel officials for them to be prepared for the loading of the vehicles hauling the horses with the first ferry available.
Further talks will follow in order to come up with a finite agreement, but for now owners are being asked to follow the procedure above in order to avoid any unnecessary waiting at the ports.
Torvald Palema again... posted on 20/09/2009Åke Svanstedt won Åby Stora Pris with Torvald Palema, and since Torvald won both heats a third one was not necesseray. This horse has dominated the big meetings this year and been totally outstanding. Now Svanstedt has his eyes on Prix d'Amerique.
With one big race left Torvald Palema could be annnounced winner of Grand Circuit 2009. After winning Åby Stora Pris he has an unbeatable lead. What to say more than congrats to a brilliant season!!!!
But unfortunately the meeting was not just a day of joy. Lutfi Kolgini's horse Immenso November fell down and died during the race. And pictures of how the driver Johnny Takter is kissing the horses head and how Kolgini is hugging the horse will always be in my mind.
Another sad or bad incidense was the fight between Lutfi Kolgini and Fabrice Souloy. After Åby Stora Pris they had a argument and were yelling bad words to each other. Not nice and actually not very common on swedish ractracks. It cooled down but they did not walk away like friends.
Järvsöfaks took his 198th victory this week. He won on an excellent time for this time of the year, 1,20.5. Hi guys:) posted on 09/09/2009I can't resist writing to you all from Sweden. I am checking the news all the time (ha ha strange being on the other side), some I like what I read, some I don't. Hmm, have to deal with that when I come home, like why Vision was out on the streets (me saying not to do that..hmm), not good for him! Well, it will soon be back in order again:)
But have you all noticed that all the stuff I do by myself they are a whole bunch of people doing, and still some of them say I have an easy job (12 horses/one person!), with alot of spear time, hmm tell me when???. Yeap right huh, hmm maybe I should stay here then....:)
I have had a great time in Sweden, fixing the stuff I needed to fix, some worked, some failed, but not because of me, oh no of course not:) I have for exemple sold my riding horse. I can tell you it was tough, I was crying my eyes out, I have had her for 9 years, but she will get a good home with my friends and she will still be around for me to visit, ride and cuddle with:) I was also out on a horseback ride with my old trotter Ramson Aspen and gosh were we playing around, had a great time:)
Well, I am homesick! I miss my horses, my dogs and my cat and of course all of my friends, but just one more day and I will be there again..yeeesss:)
Take care and I will soon be back on the news...or maybe not...maybe I let Etienne continue and I will just devote my time to the horses...nay...don't think I can do that:)/Jane
Sundsvall Open Trot posted on 29/08/2009Today there were some good races at Bergsåker and the main attraction was of course Sundsvall Open Trot. Commander Crowe took the lead and he held it all to the finish line eventhough Torvald Palema came close at the end.
Another attraction was the Swedish Championship for Coldbloods and I must say that I got tears in my eyes when Järvsöfaks, who has entered this race 10 times, won it for the 10th time....15 years old. Wow! The trainer had promised to ride Järvsöfaks on the back if he won and he sure did:)
Happy Birthday. posted on 27/08/2009We from the Farm would like to wish Jane Happy Birthday.
